Introduction
About After The Narrows
The Narrows is barely a hike in the usual sense. It's hours of stepping on unseen, uneven cobbles against moving cold water, usually with a stick and rented boots.
The result is soreness in places ordinary trails never touch.

What to expect
- Feet and lower legs get real time
- Not a two-minute courtesy at the end. Ankle mobility work, calf and peroneal release, and thorough foot work make the biggest difference after a Narrows day.
- Hips and adductors
- The inner thigh and lateral hip take the bracing load. This area is rarely sore from normal hiking, which is why guests often can't place the ache.
- Warmth first
- Cold water leaves tissue guarded even hours later. Sessions start slow and warm before anything specific.
Best for
Who this is well-suited to
- Ankles and lower legs: constant micro-stabilization on shifting rock, plus stiff rental boots.
- Hip stabilizers and adductors: from wide, bracing steps against current.
- Low back and obliques: from staying upright while your feet keep changing plans.
- Shoulders and one forearm: from leaning on a walking stick for miles.
- Feet: cold, wet, and compressed for hours — often the sorest part of all.

Therapist recommendations
Same evening works well here — the soreness is more stiffness than damage, and getting warm again is half the treatment.
A soak beforehand is close to ideal after hours in cold water.
Ask for Recovery Massage with ankle, foot, and hip emphasis. Mention the walking stick so the shoulder gets covered.
If you're stiff rather than sore, Thai massage is an excellent alternative — assisted stretching does a lot for locked-up hips.
